Accreditation

Proud to earn National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) accreditation

NCQA Managed Behavioral Healthcare Organization (MBHO) Accreditation recognizes that we implement industry best practices to provide high-quality behavioral healthcare.

NCQA-Accredited organizations must demonstrate that they follow evidence-based practices for providing high-quality care across multiple standards. MBHO Accreditation emphasizes care coordination, complex case management, and data exchange between health plans and behavioral health organizations. 

Carelon Behavioral Health has multiple NCQA Accreditations.  The accredited legal entities and the accreditations are listed below: 

  • Carelon Behavioral Health, Inc.  – MBHO Accreditation valid through October 23, 2026, for Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare, and Marketplace lines of business. 
  • Carelon Behavioral Health Strategies, LLC – MBHO Accreditation valid through November 19, 2024, for Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare, and Marketplace lines of business. 
  • Carelon Health IPA of California – Utilization Management (UM) Accreditation valid through May 8, 2026, for Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare, and Marketplace lines of business. 
  • Carelon Health of Pennsylvania, Inc. – Multicultural HealthCare (MHC) Distinction Accreditation valid through August 9, 2024, for Medicaid. 
  • Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership– MBHO Accreditation valid through June 3, 2024, for Medicaid.

Proud to earn International Council for Helplines (ICH) accreditation

International Council for Helplines (ICH)  has been a helpline membership organization offering accreditation services for over 50 years.  ICH is a leader in the field of helpline accreditation and is solely dedicated to establishing best practice standards of service for emotional support helplines.

In 2024, Carelon Behavioral Health received accreditation  for all call, text, and chat crisis and help line activity.

Nine separate components of our Crisis Center of Excellence were extensively evaluated:

  • Governance and Leadership
  • Fiscal and Administrative
  • Facilities, Equipment and Safety
  • Training
  • Program Management
  • Supervision, Support and Evaluation of Specialists
  • Suicide Prevention and Intervention
  • Management of Specific Contact Types
  • Online Emotional Support Components (i.e., text/chat modalities)

NCQA and NCQA Managed Behavioral Healthcare Organizations (MBHO) accreditation status

 

Accreditation is granted for three years to plans that have excellent programs for continuous quality improvement and that meet NCQA’s rigorous standards. NCQA MBHO accreditation demonstrates to health plans, employers, regulators, and consumers an organization’s commitment to follow evidence-based practices to provide high-quality care.

Proud to be Quality Improvement Organizations (QIO) certified

Since 2002, Carelon Behavioral Health Strategies, LLC has maintained QIO-like entity certification. This means we are able to review cases and analyze patterns of care related to medical necessity and quality review; actively engage beneficiaries, families, and consumers, as needed, in case reviews and quality improvement initiatives; and perform the functions of a QIO with objectivity and impartiality in a fair and neutral manner.

Our QIO-like entity status enables states that partner with us to benefit from our utilization review functions and the receipt of enhanced federal matching funds of up to 75% for qualifying QIO services.

Proud to earn American Association of Suicidology (AAS) accreditation

Founded in 1968, the AAS is the nation’s oldest and largest organization devoted to research, education, and practice in “suicidology,” and advancing suicide prevention. AAS is also a recognized leader in developing and implementing training and accreditation programs. Accreditation validates service delivery programs that are performing according to stringent and nationally recognized standards.

In 2021, Carelon Behavioral Health Strategies, LLC received accreditation by the AAS as a Crisis Intervention Center, making us part of the national network that answers the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Supplier of the Year Award for Innovative Programming 2022

Carelon Behavioral Health partnered with one of the country’s largest retailers to improve leadership development, workplace performance, access to care, and overall well-being. Our team of licensed mental health clinicians helped retail store and human resource leaders identify and resolve issues that negatively influenced workplace productivity and the overall well-being of the workforce. The clinicians also initiated and monitored referrals for employees participating in the retailer’s Rehabilitation Program, coordinated crisis event responses, and developed and facilitated a variety of employee and leader trainings, podcasts, and other activities.
